Tom Jarick Biography:
I'm Tom Jarick and I’m running for East Amwell Township Committee. We need to bring balance and diverse experience to the all-Republican governing body. History shows that monopolies -- whether in business or politics -- usually do not produce the best solutions for the broadest number of customers or citizens. Civility will return with adding two Democrats to East Amwell government.
My experience as a member of the East Amwell Farmland/Open Space Preservation Committee has helped me to appreciate what an accomplishment it is that over 42% of our township is preserved and will never be developed. However, over 1,000 acres are still available for development. We need to continue preserving farms and open space to protect our water supply, support family farms, provide critical habitat for wildlife and keep our taxes low.
I live in heaven -- on the corner of Wertsville and Rainbow Hill Roads -- after moving to East Amwell eight years ago. Barbara Hay and I live on an 82-acre preserved farm with 49 chickens, 23 horses, three dogs, two grown children and a barn cat.
I have a BS in marketing from Rider University. Most of my career has been in sales and marketing. Currently, I have three jobs: sales of printing and promotional products, chick-hatching rentals and fixing stuff on our farm -- where something breaks every day. Six years ago, I started the unique chick-hatching rental business, along with rental of adult hens and coops, usually to schools and to parents who want their children to have the experience of raising chickens and eating fresh eggs.
I now want to help our community using my experience working with people to provide creative business solutions in agriculture and other areas. My communication and outreach skills will enable me to involve all residents of East Amwell in important decisions regarding our township.
